Hill Running

This is one of the toughest workouts I do. Ethel Avenue hills. It takes me about 9 minutes from my house to run at a warmup pace to the bottum of Rockford's hardest and most steady hill (in my opinion). It is a great place for running hill repeats. At just under a quarter mile, it slowly punishes you. Hills like these certainly make for a stronger runner though.
Today I did 8 hill repeats @ 1:30. My max heart rate for each hill is listed below. On the way back down the hill, I run as slow as possible and let my HR recover to mid 130's befor starting another hill.

Hills
  1. 184
  2. 188
  3. 190
  4. 191
  5. 192
  6. 193
  7. 193
  8. 194

Total Running Time = 42:21

Total Running Distance = 5.11M

  1. What a coincidence. I ran hills too, except on the treadmill.

10 min warm up at 6.5 mph pace

    2 mins @ 6% incline, 6.5 mph
3 mins rest, slowing down a bit, about 6.3 mph
(5 hills and rest repeats total)

So, I did it. It seemed like it wasn't painful enough. Probably because I was going too slow or the incline wasn't enough. I don't know. OR MAYBE... it was easy because I was really mentally tough while running. Haha, you decide!

  2. Try this next time-
6 min warmup at 6.0 pace
    2 min @ 6.5 or 7% incline, 6.8 mph
2.5 min rest, slow, about 5.3 mph,
    6 hills:
Less rest, but go slower during rest,
    higher intensity for the hills.
