  1. Securian Frozen Race Recap:

There was slight confusion before the race as to whether we were running a quarter marathon – 6.55mi – or a 10k. This is important information to me. ;) In the end I believe it was a 10k. I never did see the 6 mile marker though anyway.
For the first mile, I was seriously considering only doing the 5k…my fingers and lips were colder than I have ever experienced before, and I was thinking I could do some real damage. But by 1.5 miles I was feeling 'warmer', if you can call it that, and decided I could finish the whole thing. Shortly after mile 3 I even took off my gloves, neck warmer, and hood (still had my first hat layer on though). Can you believe that! Zack, you were right about the majority of the race being sheltered from the wind, that helped a lot.
Somewhere towards the end of mile five we turned back into downtown St. Paul, and that’s when the wind came back – I really started suffering again because at that point my gloves and neck warmer were tucked away inside my jacket and then for awhile I became more concerned with the pain in my hands than my race time. There is also a pretty decent hill at that point in the race – double whammy.
As always seems to happen with me at races I never have the right perception of where the finish line is, and by the time I saw it, I figured I could have sped up a little sooner.

In the end – glad I did it! I have a nice commemorative mug and another 10k under my belt. And, racing in the negative double digits weather certainly gives me bragging rights as well, don’t you think? ;)
